the surprise revealed

Wednesday 30 January 2008 at 11:24 am Ok, it looks like this is a done deal, I just have to get my butt in gear and get to work on it. So I figured that I can finally reveal the surprise that I hinted at a few weeks ago.

A while back (2005 I think) I wrote a comic (or, more accurately, a graphic short-story) called Coda . I found a publisher for it and shopped it around to some very talented artists, but was unable to get anyone who was interested in collaborating on it, either the story "wasn't their style", or they were too busy to take on new projects. So I shelved Coda for a while and actually almost forgot about it.

Well a couple of months ago my wife happened to meet a very talented comic artist who just happened to be looking for work, so I dusted off Coda and gave it to him to read. He did some amazing character studies, and it looks like we're going to be making a comic!

a hint

Tuesday 22 January 2008 at 4:48 pm There's been a little bit of buzz about the teaser I posted earlier this month, so rather than leave you all hanging, I thought I would give another hint about this project. Some of you may remember Quake Park from a while back. Well the seed for this idea began all those years ago with the antics of Shaka, Leche, Grapple, and Pirk. Any more than that and I'll let the cat out of the bag before it's a done deal!

microeconomics and social business

Monday 14 January 2008 at 10:43 am I was listening to NPR last night and heard this interview with Muhammad Yunus, the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize winner. The interview centered around his new book Creating a World Without Poverty: Social Business and the Future of Capitalism.

I think that Mr. Yunus is really on to something here. In our current society, the goal of business and career is to make money and generally that's all. People who want to make a difference in the world will turn to religious organizations, charities, or politics, but there's no reason why businesses can't also incorporate altruism into their models. I think that one of the reasons that these ideas appeal to me so much is get the whole story...
